Some 85 percent of the ice that made up the mountaintop glaciers in 1912
was gone by 2007, researchers led by paleoclimatologist Lonnie Thompson
of Ohio State University report in Tuesday's edition of Proceedings of
the National Academy of Sciences.

And more than a quarter of the ice present in 2000 was gone by 2007.

Kilimanjaro Ice Shrinks As Mountain Cools

20 Mar 2009

The alpine glacier atop East Africa's Mt. Kilimanjaro, for example, is
shrinking, yet scientific measurements show the mountain has been cooling
for decades, and the temperature virtually never rises above freezing.

So why are Kilimanjaro's glaciers melting?

There are two main factors.

Recent deforestation at the base of the mountain means wind updrafts are
drier than they have been in the past, resulting in less mountaintop
snowfall to sustain the glacier.

Moreover, even though temperatures have been cooling for several decades,
they rose dramatically as the Earth emerged from the Little Ice Age 100 to
200 years ago.

Kilimanjaro temperatures are still much warmer than during the Little Ice
Age, and the large mountaintop glacier has yet to find its equilibrium since
the Little Ice Age ended.

Kilimanjaro's glacier has been receding since the 1800s, long before humans
were emitting significant amounts of carbon dioxide.

Warmest Regards

Bon z0

"It is a remarkable fact that despite the worldwide expenditure of perhaps
US$50 billion since 1990, and the efforts of tens of thousands of scientists
worldwide, no human climate signal has yet been detected that is distinct
from natural variation."

Bob Carter, Research Professor of Geology, James Cook University, Townsville

So now if you question man-made global warming (or is it climate change
?) you're a racist????

Loony, lefty, "logic".....

BTW - your race card lost it's power several months ago from over-use.
As always - you demmies overplayed your hand.

Just say *NO* to Obama's Cap and Tax debacle....unless, of course, you
want to contribute to *Al Gore, Inc* (checks, credit cards, food stamps,
accepted....but cash is ALWAYS preferable ;^)   LOL!!!!!

Al Gore pinky-swears that he invests all of the profits he's making off
of this man-made Global Warming (or is it climate change?) silliness
back to a climate protection group.  Yah - that's the ticket!

ROTFFLMMFAO!!!!!!  :^D

Same thing has been going on in america. Nearly all our glaciers are much
smaller than they were 200 years ago. Everyone agrees temps are warmer now
than during the little ice age.

So one mountain determines the climate for the globe?  Global climate
change is NOT the same as global warming. Global climate change has been
occurring for as long as there was climate.

I'm still waiting for the coming Ice Age the left promised me back in
the 70's...

I bought a Sno-Jet with my paper route money, just for the
occasion....

Then the leftists said we'd run out of gas, so I hoarded that in an
underground tank so I'd have fuel for my Sno-Jet when the Ice Age
came....

Tick tock tick tock....

And you wonder why nobody gives a shit what you say now?

Jesus Christ, if it were up to you fuckheads and your constant
attempts  to impose your "morals" on the rest of us we'd all be
wearing Mao suits and carrying around buckets of dirt by now.

You're worse than those Jehovah's Witnesses who keep canvassing the
neighborhood.

It has been know for more than 100 years that
deforestation in the region reduced precip, so the
cause is less snowfall, not AGW.

And what do you suppose it proves ?

Remember : up to now, there is no scientific evidence that CO2 causes any
significant global warming.

If its something YOU have no influence upon then why are you worrying?

global warming.

Never claimed to be worried.

Damn Republicans!  If it weren't for them we'd have a lot more ice
caps.  Probably more snow cones too.

•• So what does that matter? You are a major
[more likely - minor] debacle. Now if
Thompson were to describe the condition of
mountains one hundred years or a million
years ago and particularly Kilimanjaro, I
would be interested because that is his
expertise. Thompson is a fish out water who
got a grant to investigate global warming.

•• Your debacle begins with an overly broad field.
We know that as many, if not more, glaciers are
growing not shrinking. I posted a few minutes
ago a paper that tells us why.

> >> And more than a quarter of the ice present in 2000 was gone by 2007.

•• If Thompson was not in the field for several years and measuring,
then the paper would need to be soft to be useful.

•• No it proves you are a naive fool.

. In real science the burden of proof is always
. on the proposer, never on the sceptics. So far

. neither IPCC nor anyone else has provided one
. iota of valid data for global warming nor have
. they provided data that climate change is being

. effected by commerce and industry, and not by
.  natural phenomena.
