1) A Dem governor clearly stated that he was not an Obama supporter and that he would opt out of a public health care option.
2) A Dem governor's riches failed to offset his incompetence.
Furthermore, none of the young Obama voters turned out for these two races and nor did a number of Dems who might otherwise have if these two were more on message and competent.
The GOP lost in a straight head to head fight with the Dems in an ANCIENT GOP seat because the GOP tore itself to pieces in an internal civil war.
Sounds to me like the GOP is in for some very bad news next year as they will be losing seats to both the Dems and the Conservative Party.

It is clear that the "Birthers", "Teabaggers", politicians and media hosts or pundits that purvey messages of resistance, insurrection and don't want their kids to go to school to hear the words of the POTUS have become the dupes and stooges of foreign intelligence services that wish to see the US destabilized by a bunch of fools - they must be laughing their heads off at these wingnuts who are so ready to be their pawns...
Thank you for posting this...it certainly puts last night into perspective. I heard a dozen news commenters say yesterday, that tomorrow pundits are going to make this something about Pres Obama and local politics has nothing to do with federal politics. I am a "city voter' as opposed to some of the county townships around me. The county voted against smoking in public...earth shaking huh? Guess what?...on our ballot ..we had one name....one Democrat with no opponent. I did my civic duty and laughed. One check mark..tah dah..that really changed the whole nation, huh?

NY23 Republicans lost, Conservatives won to some extent. If the GOP had supported Mr Hoffman, he would have won, But, the Republican party spent almost 100,000 running ads against Mr Hoffman. It was the good ole boys that picked the wrong candidate for the Republican party, it's on their heads..The Republican party will pick up seats, if they pick the conservatives. The tide has turned since we formed into a one party system. If the Republicans are going to behave as Democrats, they might as well be Democrats. Now, we are making a change we can believe in, we will not tolerate a democrat in Republican clothing, example Dede.. This is beyond you, as you are on the other side, so your brain has limited capacity for understanding the workings of the GOP

Isn't going to happen though since you conservatives are now the party of dumb and dumber. Religious bigots, hypocrits, neocons and others that brought the US to its knees. The intellectuals have fled you and now all you have left is each other and Fox news.
The tide has turned since we formed into a one party system.
What one party system? The one Tom Delay wanted with everything gerrymandered to make a permanent GOP majority? That one party state? The people got sick of you and kicked you out on our ear last year. The conservative party and GOP are now like two drunks thrown out of a bar who are having a commotion in the street as to whose fault it was that they got kicked out.

How Christie won (NorthJersey.com) http://www.northjersey.com/news/How_Christie_won.html It took six months of campaigning before Chris Christie believed he could actually win the race for governor. One late July morning — in the days after the FBI arrested 44 people in a record-setting corruption sting — the former federal prosecutor turned to his wife, Mary Pat, and suggested they prepare for the new life that would come with victory. "She looked and stared, like, ‘really?’" Christie recalled. "Then she said, ‘You know, I think you’re right.’" In the next few months, the Republican’s double-digit lead in the polls gave way to a neck-and-neck race against the wealthy Democratic incumbent Jon Corzine. The campaign deteriorated into a name-calling brawl over ethics, issues and Christie’s weight — and an upstart independent, Chris Daggett, proclaimed that he, not Christie, was the true agent of change. But Christie survived, becoming the first Republican to win a statewide election in a dozen years. "There was always a confidence that this could happen," said Sen. Joe Kyrillos (R-Monmouth), Christie’s campaign chairman. "There was perhaps a euphoria in the summertime. But we always cautioned ourselves that the numbers would get close." More than 20 key players interviewed in both campaigns said regardless of Corzine’s wealth and a strong Democratic endgame strategy, Christie was always favored to win a race defined by a weak economy, high property taxes and troubling unemployment. "People are disgruntled and angry," said Sen. Loretta Weinberg (D- Bergen), Corzine’s running mate. "When people get angry and hostile, the attitude is, ‘Throw the bums out, whoever they are.’" Christie was also helped by Corzine’s inability to connect with average voters. In fact, after the summer corruption bust, Democrats considered replacing the governor on the ticket — a move they abandoned when an internal poll showed Newark Mayor Cory Booker wouldn’t fare any better, top Democrats said. Some party leaders even considered abandoning Corzine for Christie. From the day he entered the race, Christie, surrounded by a small, tight-knit group of advisers, ran a cautious, methodical campaign intensely focused on the final days. He was determined to save money, then spend big on TV advertising in the end. And he refused to fall prey to Corzine’s efforts to force him to offer detailed specifics on budget and tax plans that could be turned against him. Christie also surprised Democrats by running a disciplined, organized race instead of reacting recklessly as they thought he would in the face of an advertising onslaught that accused him of being a back- slapping bully who liked handing out public contracts to cronies. "He stuck to his strategy," Democratic state Chairman Joe Cryan said. Uneasy and unpopular, Corzine last winter asked GOP political consultant Carl Golden, who’d helped put Tom Kean and Christie Whitman in the governor’s mansion, for advice on how to appeal to voters. By the time the FBI did its early-morning roundup of politicians and rabbis on July 23, it seemed to many — including Corzine allies — that Christie was destined to win. "The Jon Corzine we all know as governor is clearly a different individual than when he first introduced himself as a candidate for Senate," said former Sen. Robert Torricelli, a Democrat who advised Corzine and is a friend of Christie’s. "He has been disgusted by the conduct of some people in the political process ... That has caused both a problem in government and a political problem." It got so bad, White House and New Jersey Democratic operatives revived — briefly — the idea Corzine could be replaced with a candidate such as Booker or Senate President Richard Codey. After a series of August meetings with top operatives, the Corzine team decided to speed up its planned attacks on Christie. Just days later, Corzine got a well-timed gift when Congress released testimony from Karl Rove, the GOP strategist and aide to former President George W. Bush, showing he and Christie had spoken about Christie’s political plans and that the Republican was viewed as "loyal" to the unpopular Bush. Next came the Democratic onslaught. Material dug up by the Corzine camp began to be revealed, including an unreported loan Christie had made to a subordinate and a poor driving history. Taken individually, the revelations might not have amounted to much. But together, they were enough to take the shine off Christie’s image as ethics-minded lawman. "It is amazing to me that the guy who entered the race as the state’s crime-fighter and one of the nation’s top crime-fighters has suddenly been redefined as a guy who’s not entirely honest," political analyst Stuart Rothenberg said. But while Christie’s poll ratings suffered, disappointed Democrats said their attacks didn’t deliver a knockout blow. "They did the best they could when those things happened," said one Democrat. "Each time, they took a weeklong story and cut it off fast." Christie also survived Daggett — a Republican-turned-independent who won the first debate, had a specific property tax plan and was grabbing support from him among voters seeking change. In the end, Christie won the two-front war. He attacked Daggett as a tax-and-spend Corzine clone, and carefully courted conservative Republicans. He got back on his game as Corzine took hits on his investments and donations. And he gained sympathy when a Corzine ad implied he was too fat. "Was it the most perfect campaign?" Kyrillos said. "I don’t know. The analysts will figure that out." On Nov 4, 12:32 pm, Wikking <Wik.Ki...@yahoo.co.uk> wrote:

Here we have more confirmation that irrelevant foreigners have no grasp of American politics. This has been a wonderful news day.

As an irrelevant foreigner, your ignorance may be excused. The Democrats are attempting to put on a game face. There is no Conservative Party. The party which did quite well was the Republican Party with help from independent voters.

So they called themselves the Conservative Party because they didn't know about the GOP? Do they all have Alzheimers?
