The USS San Juan (SSN-751) will dock in Simon's Town on Wednesday 4 November 2009 at 14:00 (T Wall). This will be preceeded by two SAN submarines which will dock on Papa Wall at 12h00.

I was expecting to see it come up (actually "down") the Willamette.

She was supposed to be here on the 24th October. Seen the U-boat in Cape Town? Movies, sigh.

Aargh! Why do I only notice my typo now? The South African Navy base is at Simon's Town - not Tows

Stirred myself from my customary torpid languor and went over to Snoekies to watch the Yankee Imperialist Warmongering death machine arrive. My God, when them Yanks ring down for dead slow ahead - they mean dead slow ahead. Took them an hour from Roman rock to the bullnose. (We timed it). Me and Abdul could have rowed our dinghy faster than that (even laden with explosives) - except they had Namacurras swarming all over the thing and any boat that got within a mile or so was promptly herded off. Didn't stay to watch her alongside - they had two of the bigger tugs and 2 of the small tugs around her by then and it was hard to see anything that even looked vaguely submarinish within the melee. The south easter was roaring away and her stern kept swinging out - did not think it would be so affected by the wind To be honest, a very unimpressive sight! Dean will probably have some good pics - I took a slew but nothing worth writing home about.

Not a sausage - but as they can't read they proberly weren't aware of the raging danger of accepting this particular asp into our bosom!

Of all the strange crimes that human beings have legislated out of nothing, 'blasphemy' is the most amazing--with 'obscenity' and 'indecent exposure' fighting it out for second and third place.

Mmmm - stock footage. And taken after a nice chamfer up too. This afternoon she looked blotchy dull black-grey matte. Either a new colour scheme or the old hoggin had taken it's toll since her last paint ship exercise!

True - mea culpa. Didn't realise it carried on on page two! As you can see she is in a bit of a need of a paint job! Unless it is a new camouflage to confuse the seals!

I see the SAN brought out the big guns in our fight against the USN. In the captain's cabin of the submarine, on his desk is the latest issue of the SAN Navy News. That'll teach him we mean business!

The newspaper article on the page said "There are 140 all-male crewmembers on board the USS San Juan...". Apparently someone has checked out just how male the US crewmembers are already.

I'm sure the local Sisters of Joy have been doing some checking - but I doubt it would be very scientific!

How much shore leave did they get? From the reports I saw most of their time here was devoted to playing Hide 'n Seek with the S102 and sundry surface targets.
