I actually feel bad for the guy, but I knew he was going to be in over his head. This is what I said just before he was hired in 2005...I can't link to the direct post any longer:
"My general philosophy is that coaches who don't have at least assistant experience at "big time" programs will tend to struggle at these programs as head coaches. This is why Hawkins would worrry me if I were CU. I mean, before this he was at Willamette, Sonoma State and the College of the Siskiyous."

I don't. It's hard to turn down an opportunity to advance your career. Have you done it? Have you ever taken a promotion you subsequently wish you hadn't?

Hawkins big mistake was recruiting his kid to play QB. His paternal instincts are stronger than his winning instincts.

I can see that, but on the flip side, wasn't Cody Hawkins a prized recruit at the time?

So was John Elway. I'm of the mind that beyond High School it's a bad idea to play for your dad.
Dude, I've spent a lot of time in Denver and Boulder, a good day in Omaha or Lincoln completely RUTS even a good day in Colorado.
