As do others, and what Lundquist doesn't seem to realize is that while
it may be *possible* that LSU controls their own destiny, it's by no
means certain.  I realize he's an SEC uberhomer, but c'mon already...

a 1-loss LSU would say "bye" to TCU in the BCS standings. I'm not
saying that's what should happen, but it's what would happen.

remember, to do that, LSU would have to beat Alabama and Florida. TCU
just wouldn't have anything on their resume remotely like that.

TCU isn't likely to override LSU at one loss, but Cincinnati almost
certainly would.

If LSU beats 'bama and then wins the SEC championship, aren't they
automagically in the title game?  I thought the SEC winner always got
a pass to the title game?

They are the best conference, y'know.

Depends on how highly Utah would be regarded when they beat them.  I
think an undefeated TCU would have a good chance to be above a 1 loss
SEC champ in the human poles.

I agree with you and Verne.  If LSU wins the rest of their games, they
will be the BCS champs... but they won't win the rest of their games.

This fall, Franklin is getting his share of Big 12 football telecasts ‹
they¹re just not the best games. Although this will be his third OU
broadcast, he said he expects to go all season without covering his
hometown Longhorns, who are on course for the BCS Championship game.
Covering the OU-Nebraska game, which will go to 36 percent of the
nation, will be a thrill for Franklin, a former sports director at
KVOO-2 (now KJRH-2) in Tulsa. Ed Cunningham will be the analyst.
"Even though Nebraska is not close to being back to where they want to
be, I still think this will be a good ballgame just because it¹s been
such a great rivalry,² he said.

ESPN's Ron Franklin unhappy about change on ŒBig Monday¹
Published: November 6, 2009

While Ron Franklin is excited about broadcasting the Oklahoma-Nebraska
football game at 7 p.m. Saturday on ABC, he is disappointed about his
reduced Big 12 basketball role with ESPN.
After being a part of "Big Monday² since the Big Eight games moved into
the showcase setting in 1992, Franklin has been reduced to Wednesday
and Saturday night broadcasts. Franklin and analyst Fran Fraschilla
have been replaced by Brent Musburger and former Texas Tech coach Bob
Knight on "Big Monday.²

You have to wonder how many Big 12 coaches, whom Knight has feuded
with, also are unhappy with the change. OU coach Jeff Capel might fit
in that category.
"I can¹t tell you how many coaches and athletic directors from around
the league have called me to say we don¹t agree with this,² Franklin
said this week.
The reduced role likely will make it easier for Franklin, 67, to stick
with his plan to retire from ESPN when his contract expires in April.
"They have said, ŒWait ¹til after football, we want to talk to you.¹
But with some of the things going on, golly, stuff like this,² he said.
Franklin, an Austin, Texas, resident, said losing his "Big Monday² role
was a surprise to him. He said he will have only one game at Kansas
this season after having covered up to six games a season from
Lawrence, Kan.
"It¹s hurtful to have it happen,² Franklin said. "It¹s something that
we¹ve helped build on and help grow. We sell this conference and we
sell those teams that are on ŒBig Monday.¹ I wonder a little bit if the
new group will do as much of that because I¹m not sure they have the
vested interest or care as much about the league as we do because Fran
and I live down here.²
Fraschilla, who lives in Dallas, will concentrate on Big East games
this season, but will do some Big 12 games.

dude, after iowa's loss(he said that after iowa had lost), they
probably did.....

They would have been behind cincy/tcu before the florida game, but
unless they were MASSIVELY behind, cincy/tcu would have been passed
over had lsu beaten florida...

hence until bama beat them today, they probably did........

if you had to out in disclaimer type of words with every statement
that is an implied opinion, that would be pretty damn annoying.....

I think everyone(including me) understand that lundquist did not have
100% certainty when making that statement......

I mean hell slick, the sun will *probably* rise tommorrow....but if a
massive rock strikes the earth in an hour, it might not......

One could quickly scan the numbers(after the iowa loss) and see that
two *MASSIVE* wins would almost certainty vault LSU above either cincy
or tcu......thus I didnt have a problem with what he said.

and honestly, Im not sure bama and florida have to win out to
guarantee themselves a shot at the bcs title game if they drop a game
to say fsu(florida) or auburn(alabama)....

they are 1 and 2 probably in the bcs after this weekend, and if then
if they lose and have that MASSIVE win in the sectg they would
probably leapfrog tcu/cincy then......

tcu's/cincys only hope is that texas loses to someone.....because it's
going to be bama/florida vs someone....and even if texas loses, it's
not a sure thing.....
