You feel that way only because it supported your view. You would be screaming and how stupid maine's voters were if it went the other way. Look at how referendums crippled california's budget. Wording of referendums is always controversial. There is no debate. You can put things on the ballot that violate the constitution. I don't support them even if they are in line with my views.

Don't conflate two distinct issues: I screamed how stupid the USA's voters were last year when they voted to elect Obama President, but that doesn't mean i oppose the electoral process that resulted in his election. Quite the opposite.

The budget in California is crippled for the same reason it gets crippled elsewhere: legislators who insist on spending more than their allowed revenues permit.

and for much of their budget their hands are tied because of referendums. GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT!!!! was the battle cry. Now they have to live with it.

Don't be so sure. Plenty of people, the President, a few SCOTUS judges, many powerful politicians still support bigotry and discrimination. The gay marriage folks have to win over the people AND the politicians. Currently, a majority of people are against the bigotry and discrimination supported by the current administration.

"Even on freedom of religion, Obama could not resist the compulsion to find fault with his own country: “For instance, in the United States, rules on charitable giving have made it harder for Muslims to fulfill their religious obligation” — disgracefully giving the impression to a foreign audience not versed in our laws that there is active discrimination against Muslims, when the only restriction, applied to all donors regardless of religion, is on funding charities that serve as fronts for terror."

In principle, i agree. But in this particular case, it's probably not too likely that those who enacted the constitution intended for it to protect 'gay marriage rights', so your concern here is almost certainly unfounded.

I warned you guys - give women the right to vote, the next thing you know you have toddlers and adolescents in the polling stations.
