Subject: OT: Unemployment Benefits Extended
I'm reading the newspaper this morning and it says Congress extended
unemployment benefits, by a vote of 404 to 12.  The article goes on to say
that they get like 99 weeks of benefits!  Holy crap, no wonder our country
is going down the drain.  I mean, it's been years, decades, since I ever got
unemployment.  I don't remember it being anywhere near that much.  Are you
kidding me?  Are you telling me that these deadbeats nowadays can sit on
their asses for 99 friggin weeks, getting paid by us people who still work?
Unbelievable!

The article went on to say that the home purchase program is going to be
extended also, so that people who have bought a house in the last five years
get like $6000, or something like that.  What the fuck?!  Where is all this
money supposed to come from?  And what really gets me, only 12 Congressmen
voted NO!  Of course, all 12 were Republicans, the only ones with any sense
in their heads.  But how many Republicans does that mean still voted for
this craziness?

It's like Fl Turbo has been telling me for years on this newsgroup now.
Once the people figure out they can vote themselves free stuff, and the
whore politicians go along with this, we are seeing the beginning of the
end.  Apparently, the bill was approved and waiting to be signed by Obama.
Yeah, like THAT has any chance of being stopped by him.  This is just crazy.
Absolutely crazy.

Here in the UK there are people in their 50's that have been on unemployment
benefit since they left school at 16. They've never worked a day in their
life. They also get their rent and council tax paid for. 99 weeks is nothing
over here.

The money comes from the same place it came from when working people were
paying you when you weren't working.  I guess you didn't have a problem
taking a government handout then.  I'm sure there were people then
complaining about having to pay people like you for not working.

Of course, Dave, you are 100% correct on every point you just made.
Obviously you have enough experience and business sense to appreciate the
ramifications of continuing in the way we are continuing.  But Dave, there
is a vital conflict in your overall sense of the whole picture.  Y'see,
Dave, it is not enough just to have good business sense and a desire to see
our government act in a fiscally responsible manner.  That alone will not
save the nation.  Because, Dave, right now in the United States of America
there is a holocaust going on, and some 2,000,000 innocent babies are being
ripped apart and thrown into the sink each year.  If you think it is
possible for our blessed country to continue in prosperity and freedom if we
get our government spending under control yet do nothing to curb the rampant
immorality, I think you are quite mistaken.  Why should God continue to
bless America when we turn our backs to Him and think nothing of allowing
our daughters to act as harlots?  It's a package deal, Dave.  The Republican
Party is indeed the hope of our nation, yet allowing the impure into a "big
tent" is a sure path to damnation.  Without principle, and morality, we are
doomed.

And when was that, numb nuts?  About 30 years ago when I took TWO MONTHS
OFF?!  These guys, and apparently you too, are taking two YEARS off.
Fucking professional deadbeats.  All they do is sit around, collect checks,
and post to the internet all day.  It's pathetic.

same principle, just different time.  Why did it take you 2 months to find a
job?  Or was it really like you said "I took two months OFF?"  Must have
been great to have the working taxpayers giving you money while you "took
time off".  You didn't  have the internet back then, so what did you do all
day for two months?  8 hours a day of job hunting?  I doubt it.  You just
took time off and took advantage of a government program.  Did you even need
the money, or did you just say, "I don't need it, but since it's a
government handout, I'll take it?"  That's as pathetic then as it is today.

Here it's around 55% of your gross income up to about $450/wk. The
number of weeks you can collect depends on the unemployment rate in
your region, but is usually around 40 weeks.

I would have guessed about 20 weeks, until I read the article.  I guess
there would be nothing wrong with "insurance", but the employer should not
be forced to pay into it.  If people want to have unemployment "insurance"
then they should have to buy it by themselves.  Unless, of course, the
employer WANTS to provide it, as part of a package.  When you have the
government forcing the employers to "match" payments into this,
realistically the employer is paying ALL of it.  Because that is the cost of
employing that employee.  "Matching" is an illusion.

Of course you did

When you bemoan unemployment payouts, you're implicitly endorsing NOT making
them.

I didn't bemoan the payouts, O Clueless Wonder. I am frightened by the way
Congress is placing the burden on small business, the very soul of
employment in this country.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------

That's what I said.  Or that's what I meant anyway.  There is no matching.
This is the price the employee must forego to get the job, it is the cost of
hiring him.  If it costs too much, the job does not exist.  Fuck it.  Every
employer should just close up his business and let the people starve.
Seriously, I'm starting to think that.  Employees are ungrateful anyway.
Business owners and property owners should just call it quits.  No more
jobs, no more rentals, let the masses just die in the desert.  Good!  The
freeway won't be so jammed anymore.
