Subject: OT: Economy Indicator
There seems to be some debate whether the economy is doing badly or not.
Some people are saying it's pretty good and they seem to base this on the
fact that either they or someone they know are doing well. I go by the
leading economic indicators myself. Today it came out that the June numbers
for home sales was at a ten year low. Then it was revealed that of the homes
sold a full third of them were foreclosures. That's pretty concrete evidence
that the real estate market is doing awful. You can add all the business
that is connected to that market like construction and home improvement
stores etc. Today the stock market is down more than 200 points. I think
this is pretty strong evidence that the economy is not doing well despite
the protestations of those who are desperate not to admit the reality of the
situation. By the way, I'm doing fine too.

Markets tend to cycle, and unless you take a long term position markets will
eat those that think it is a place to get rich quick for lunch.

Consider if you will those folks that a few years back were tossing money at
anything ending in dot-com as fast as they could.  Reality set in just as it
did with the tulip bulb frenzy and lots of speculators lost their shirts.

The general stock market is cyclical also and right now we are in a long
term bear market.

As to real estate, a whole lot of suckers got caught up in lending money to
folks that were not credit worthy gambling that when they bailed out of
their loans, the homes would be sufficient to gain a hefty profit anyway.
These fools are now being parted with their money.

It's funny that pirates were always going around searching for treasure,
and they never realized that the real treasure was the fond memories
they were creating.
