This Govt. Is Dangerous For Pakistan
The national threats and risks are so severe that if this present government stays in power for a couple of more months, the situation could become critical. Already, the seeds of a violent social disintegration are being planted rapidly, as if the handlers of this government know that they have only a few more weeks to complete the job and are in a hurry.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan-"A really efficient totalitarian state would be one in which the all-powerful executive of political bosses and their army of managers control a population of slaves who do not have to be coerced, because they love their servitude." - Aldous Huxley, Brave New World.
Last week, we wrote this empirical assessment of the political situation:
"The challenges at hand are tough enough. They have been made severe by the fact that there is no government in Islamabad at the moment. Parliament does not function, coalition partners are threatening each other and even within PPP there seems to be rebellion in the making. These are not good signs for any government let alone a government in crisis. The U.S. frustration is even more amusing as their entire investment is now threatened."
We have no hesitation in saying that the present regime under Zardari and PPP with ANP and MQM as the coalition partners are the most incompetent, corrupt and perhaps dangerous group of suspects to lead the country at this juncture. The national threats and risks as well as external and internal threats are so severe that if this present government stays in power with the present state of mind and action for couple of more months, the situation could become critical. Already, the seeds of a violent social disintegration are being planted rapidly, as if the handlers of this government know that they have only a few more weeks to complete the job and are in a hurry!
Despite completing its five-year term, the previous government led by PML (Q) under the guidance of Musharraf and premiership of Shaukat was perhaps considered as the worst in 60 years history of Pakistan in terms of internal security, economic corruption and social division and unrest. This present government led by Zardari is already on way to surpassing that record in a short span of 3 months!
Still, the PM feels that it is the lame duck President who is causing this entire crisis, as he implied in his first televised speech to the nation.
The political situation for the government is so hopeless that even the coalition partners are now seriously finding it hopeless to carry on. The demands of PML(N) are impossible for Mr. Zardari to accept and hence we can assume that the coalition is now doomed.
Meanwhile, the crisis after crisis continue to haunt the business and trading community of the country as well as the common people who are now threatened with radical increase in fuel, food and power rates. There is no doubt that if the present rate of inflation, taxation and price hike continues, we are on way to some very unpleasant reaction from the man on the street. While these crises simmer at home, the leadership spends its time in Dubai, London and U.S. to avoid the rising heat at home.
As we emphasized last week also, all the ills we have discussed above are due to a weak and indecisive government in Islamabad which is too busy fighting its own war of survival than to be of any good use to the country. The possibility remains very high that this democratic experiment may not last long.
