As told by the elder members of the Church of Gnominism!
In the beginning, there were Gnomes, and Gnomes were among Gnomes. There was no earth, and darkness was all that existed, save Gnomes. And then, the Gnomes decided to become something more. They conjoined, all the greatest of Gnome-kind, to become, the Gnomarch. This great Gnomarch stretched out its hand, and there was Gnome-dom. First, the earth came into being, formed from the bodies of trillions upon trillions of Gnomes. Water was made from the blood of Gnomes, and made to fill the deep places of the earth. Then trees, and flowers sprouted into existence, the spirits of Gnomes giving birth unto glorious foliage. Then, the work of Gnome-kind was done for a while. Years passed, and the Gnomes lived happily under the rule of the Gnomarch. The Gnomes became skilled in the art of metalwork, and decided to craft servants for themselves. First, they made creatures of copper and silver to ply the deeps and build cities below the waves. These they called fish, and the largest of these creatures were called whales. The whales the Gnomes made for the purpose of transport. The deep dark of the oceans was accessible now to Gnomes. The creatures of the earth, the animals who walked on land, where made next. From steel was forged the horse, from bronze was forged the hippo, from lead, the elephant, and from gold, the lion, king of all creatures: second only to Gnomes. The creatures were made in shapes that pleased the Gnomes, but they were not content with their thoughtless beasts of burden. The Gnomes sought to create a creature in their own image, and so they set to work on forging Man. Day after day was spent, and the Gnomes combined all the metals of the earth, gold, silver, iron, lead, platinum, copper: every metal that could be found. The great metals were woven together and bound by the Gnomish magics, to become the flesh of humans. These humans at first were subservient to the Gnomes, but after a time, they became rebellious. A great war broke out, and the Gnomes were forced to kill thousands of their creations. Why had the humans become rebellious? The Gnomarch soon learned that there had been a traitor among the Gnomes: a Dark Gnome, one who cared not for the benevolent rule of the Gnomarch. The Dark One sought to create his own power. But his Gnomish magic was not strong enough without the power of the Gnomarch guiding him. Half the Gnomes, deceived by the dark-one's clever tongue, sided with him. The Dark One's warriors were not strong enough, however, and they were banished and thrown down from the high places. The Dark One and his allies created a place for themselves to reside in, which came to be known as the Dark Place. Here the Dark Gnomes plotted and continue to plot to attack and overthrow the Gnomarch and rule the world themselves. They first subtley attacked the humans, servants of the Gnomarch, leading them astray by means of deceit and evil persuasion. This was the reason for the rebellion among them. Now, the very world is run by Gnomes. Still, the Dark Gnomes plot, but for now, the earth is safe. All life owes its existence to Gnomes, and yet there are so few who are members of the True church of Gnominism. May the Gnomes have mercy upon the souls of the unbelievers, lest they be consumed by the eternal fires of the dark-one. Let all existence, hail the glories of Gnome-kind!!!
