working . I tried with some testing . It downloads all message only.

I have a Gmail account which I access from my Mac Pro desktop and my
Mac Book laptop. When I delete and/or file messages on the desktop,
the changes are propagated to the laptop (or vice-versa). However, on
my new G1, I see several dozen messages that I previously deleted (and
I exited the Mail program to make the changes permanent.)

The Message-ID will persist with the message, so you can use that to
identify the same message in any folder:

Gmail also supports searching by Message-ID:

So apparently Gmail has screwed up something but if you turn off your
primary STMP account and use the ROGERS or FIDO STMP Account, you can
then send emails. This is weird though, I hope Gmail fixes everything
on their end soon.

I am having this same problem on my iPhone2G! it started after the
2.1firmware update. (it worked before that) I have gone over the
settings a hundred times and can not get it to work! :(
