If you want to delete all emails that you have:
- go to all mail
- click on "Select: All" at the top
- click on "All xxx conversations on this page are selected. Select
all xxxx conversations in All Mail"
- press Delete
- go to Trash and empty it.

Mass deleting emails

Dear all

I need help and clearing out my emails. I diverted my university
emails to my gmail because it was being overloaded by spam since day
one when the university gave the address to me. So the emails
accumulated, and now its at a whopping 1700 emails and thank god the
spamming stopped after i graduated and the uni email cancelled. I want

i recently deleted all my labels including the system ones (inbox.
trash, sent, all mail) by mistake and im trying to bring them back
with no avail. They exist, but they are not shown on my list. I know
i can just move the mails around from folder to folder, the problem is

The 'Archive' button only displays in the Inbox view, but the function
is always available from the 'More actions' menu, if any of the
selected messages have the Inbox label. (If none of them have the
Inbox label, there is nothing to archive.)

Wow that does sound pretty cool.

The closest thing in Gmail might be doing a search for
has:attachment jpg

(all emails with attachments and the word jpg)

As soon as you select any inbox message from the search view,
"archive" will become available in the "more actions" menu.

if you get more then one photo in your gmail account it will show ever
photo in a thumbnail and it will give you an option to display all
the photos once.

In yahoo mail, you can just click on photos and it shows you all the
images sent and received in a thumbnail view. This is extremely
helpful if you have many photos to sort through across many emails.
Gmail seems to be superior in every other way and I can't imagine
there isn't a way to do this here, but it seems it doesn't exist. Can

Hey Brian,
I share your frustration here. I usually only housekeep once in a
while (and don't wish to change the way I housekeep) and sorting is
imperative in quickly sorting out garbage from stuff you want to keep
and file away - sorry let me correct that - label away. Calling
sorting antiquated as I saw in one of the replies suggests a total

why can you only archive from inbox?

You can't even archive from "label:inbox," only from "inbox."

The search screen should have an archive button. At the moment you
need to move to inbox and then archive. Someone pointed out that if
you "select all" then archive becomes available in the drop-down, but

not only all but really all: every single message in the entire
mailbox!

that really makes no sense. I don't know why the archive button
disappears when you aren't in the inbox anyways, IMO it's a bug
